To make your ceiling appear much taller than it is, hang your curtain rod to the top of the ceiling. You don't need to hang the rod right on top of the window, instead scoot it up a few more inches. In the picture below, if they had put the curtains resting on top of the windows, then it would have broken the height up. By placing them to the top it gives length and height.
