Meet Your Next Door Blogger-Kirsten

Who Kirsten

From 6th Street Design School

What’s your favorite thing in your home?
My imperial trellis pillow was the first purchase I made for my home and it is where everything has stemmed from. I always love picking pillows first for my clients because I think this is where your personality really shines in your space.

What are some of your favorite places to shop or favorite resources? (online or local)
I love HomeGoods, Alice Lane Home Collection, Home Fabrics and DownEast Home. Online I am always clicking through Calico Corners, L & S Fabrics and Etsy.

What’s your favorite color?
Blue!

Who’s your favorite designer?
I am so inspired by all designers. I don't have a favorite. I love to see bloggers' homes and am always impressed with the way that people design their own spaces. There are so many creative people in this world!

If you had to design in another country where would it be?
I would love to live in Sweden. I've actually been to a lot of the Scandinavian countries and I thought they were all amazing.

What has been your favorite project you’ve completed, either for you or someone else?
I had a client recently who has really let me push her boundaries. It's been so fun to see her take risks and have them pay off.

If you were given $100 right now what would you spend it on?
I'd go straight to Anthropologie. I'd splurge it on a new dress.

What was your day like yesterday?
Yesterday was my son's birthday and it was amazing. It was super stressful but also very rewarding to see all our hard work pay off and to see my son have a great time.

Have you kept any new year’s resolutions?
No. I don't even remember what they were.

What are your favorite magazines to read?
House Beautiful never fails to inspire me. I also love all those trashy gossip magazines. My husband is a pilot so he brings them home for me. I have piles of them.

Why did you decide to start a blog?
I had just quit my job to stay at home with my son but I felt I needed a way to stay connected to the design world. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I love blogging and I feel lucky everyday to get to be a stay at home mom/designer/blogger.

Thanks so much to Kirsten for letting us in on her favorites. Her blog is fantastic, and she's a great designer! Check her out.

Found: Rachel Zoe's Lamp

I've loved loved loved these yellows lamps that are in the apartment of stylist Rachel Zoe. I love the cut outs, the color, and how much drama they bring to the room.

Well I found something pretty darn close to the ones she has at T.J.Maxx for $49!

They're not exactly the same, but they are very close. Obviously the lamp shade needs some major help, but for the price and style, you can't beat it.

They also carry the lamp in black for a less dramatic look.

If Wishes Were Fishes...

Then this lovely flatware set would be on my table as we speak!

Thank you DWR

Urban Materials

I love browsing through websites to find interesting and unique items.
This website is fun and has some great things that you wouldn't be able to just pick up anywhere. I would have loved to receive this for our wedding. What a unique take on a salad bowl.

This would be a great teachers gift for back to school.

I love how the white takes this average cuckoo clock to a whole new level.

And last but not least, these fun chairs. I could see these being outside on the patio around a metal table.

Meet Your Next Door Blogger-Leah

I'm starting a new series on this blog called Meet Your Next Door Blogger. I love reading blogs, and feel like I know the person behind the blog on some sort of level, but I wanted to know a little more. So I've come up with some fun and random questions to get to know each blogger a little better.

Who: Leah

From: The Way We Are

What’s your favorite thing in your home?
Our green buffet in our formal living room/dining room.

What are some of your favorite places to shop or favorite resources? (online or local)
Goodwill by far is my fav. But I also love Etsy, Home Goods, Anthropologie, and Z gallerie.

What’s your favorite color?
It changes all the time but right now it's PINK!

Who’s your favorite designer?
I have no idea! Lol

If you had to design in another country where would it be?
Maybe Brazil? I just love all the colors they use!

What has been your favorite project you’ve completed, either for you or someone else?
I have done a lot of projects, especially lately but my favorite would probably have to be the black and white chairs that my husband and I redid together. Talk about a transformation!!!!

If you were given $100 right now what would you spend it on?
Chairs for our dining room. I want to find affordable vintage chairs and paint them a bright red!

What was your day like yesterday?
I cooked three meals. I cleaned our whole house. I did laundry. I caught up on reading blogs. I played outside with Evelette and picked some of our figs and pears. I went for a walk with Evelette and took her to the playground. Mostly just tried to get ready before my week of babysitting!

Have you kept any new year’s resolutions?
No, I hate making those. I don't like to start something I can't finish. I am a bit of a free spirit! It's a bit funny because I am a very goal oriented person too!

What are your favorite magazines to read?
Well it was Domino but now I really only get Elle Decor. I just subscribed to Living Etc. and I think I might even like that better.

Why did you decide to start a blog?
It's kinda sad but I needed a distraction after my second miscarriage. My husband was the one who actually started it for me and then the rest was history.

Thank you so much for having me! I am so honored you wanted me here!

Thanks a bunch to Leah for giving us a peak into her life and what she loves! Her blog is so fun and is a must read!!

Tuesday's Organizing Tip #10

Organizing pictures can be a daunting task. I have a few ideas that will make it easier to get all those pictures together and organized. There are may ways to group your pictures. By year, child, location, activity, or season, to name a few.

These next three options are for the "not yet committed to my category person". You can take the pictures out easily and switch them around.

Image Photo Box

Image Accordion Box

Image Photo Binder

Photo Books are all the rage these days. You don't actually print out hard copies of pictures, you have them printed in a book. This option is for the more committed.

Last but not least, it's very important to display pictures in your home. This is the quickest way to bring personality to any space.

Wallflowers

I have been eyeing these wallflowers for about two years now. I'm not sure where I would use them, but I love the dimension they give to any room.

I think this is a great use for them. The flowers are in a guest bedroom, and add whimsy to the space.

Mirrors From The Parade of Homes

Almost all of the homes in this years parade used some sort of statement mirrors in one or more rooms. After about the fourth house I started taking pictures of them all. I may or may not have a small fetish for mirrors!

If I had a big enough wall I would use a lot of different mirrors, like I did with pictures frames, to fill the space. How pretty would that be to have a bunch of mirrors in a collage? Some good places to get mirrors are: TJ Maxx, Pier 1, CSN.com, Ross, Target, Walmart.com, and World Market.

P.S. Happy fifth anniversary to the husband!

This Years Salt Lake Parade of Homes

I've been going to this parade since I can remember. It was something me and my dad did every summer. This year I ended up going to 21 out of the 23 homes, and saw a lot of good design, ideas, and styling. Here are some pictures of the homes that I enjoyed.

This home was located in Sandy, and it was so lovely. This home was open, light, and airy.

This is for sure a statement table. I love how big the legs are.

In this next home, I loved the color scheme they used, the fun styling ideas, and the great accessories.

There was a bird theme throughout a few of the homes.

Going through the parades of homes is one of my favorite things to do each year. I love the design ideas that I get and can apply in my own home or in other peoples homes. Can't wait until next year!
