Local Spotlight- The Square Nest

This fun shop is located in the heart of Sugarhouse. They moved over from the ninth and ninth area about twelve weeks ago. There is something for everyone in this shop; from home decor, to holiday decor, baby, jewelry, home fragrance and much more. The displays are gorgeous, and the products are fabulous. Right when you walk in you are greeted with great hallloween decorations!

They're not traditional halloween pieces, they're more unique and so fun!

I love this display! This whole combination would be perfect on an entry table.

The silver changing table with matching crib is so unique, and what a fun wall behind it. You could take this whole set up from the store and put it right into your home.

Be sure to check out The Square Nest for that creative unique gift or accessory you've been needing.

Tuesday's Organizing Tip

I think the key to any organized space is the tools that help you keep it organized. Real Simple, also known as the "bible" in my house, has the greatest line of organizing tools, that are pretty, practical, and just perfect. Sometimes the task of organizing a space can be very daunting, but throw these items in the mix and it becomes much more fun.

Meet Your Next Door Blogger

Who? Christina

What’s your favorite thing in your home?
Besides my family....my sectional because it is comfortable and there is room enough for all of us to snuggle.

What are some of your favorite places to shop or favorite resources? (online or local)
Some of my favorite local places to shop are SAS fabric by the pound, Home Goods, TJ Mazz, Marshalls, Williams Sonoma Home, West Elm, Goodwill, Lutheran Thrift, Found Studio...just to name a few:-)

What’s your favorite color?
My favorite color is white..which is actually an not a color. I really do enjoy almost every color except burgundy.

Who’s your favorite designer?
It is too hard to pick just one. I love Ruthie Sommers, Steve Gambrel, Angie Hranowsky & Celerie Kemble to name a few

If you had to design in another country where would it be?
France or Italy

What has been your favorite project you’ve completed, either for you or someone else?
Unfinished projects are the story of my life but one that I mostly completed that I still really like is my girls' bedroom.

If you were given $100 right now what would you spend it on?
Fabric

What was your day like yesterday?
Honestly, yesterday was more of a fight because I was bitter and kicking myself for not getting on a plane to New York to go to the Nate Berkus show for the day. It is so darn hard to leave 5 little kids even for just a day and a half...oh well.

Have you kept any new year’s resolutions?
Yes.

What are your favorite magazines to read?
House Beautiful, Elle Decor, Martha Stewart Living, Sunset, both online magazines Lonny & Rue.

Why did you decide to start a blog?
My sister and a couple of friends talked me into it. It started out as a family blog then as the readership grew I have used it more as my outlet and distraction. In the meantime it has also turned into a great net-working tool and I have made some really great friends.

Thanks to Christina for her fun answers and a peak into her life. Her blog is full of inspiration and is so much fun to read!

The Color Bronze

I thought this color mood board was nice and fall-ish. Something about bronze makes me think of autumn.

Unique Items

I am such a sucker for one of a kind unique items that stand out from the rest. They are that conversation piece that pulls your whole design together. This lamp is no exception.

I feel like I can't describe the beauty of the lamp enough with words. I love the simplicity and the holes add some whimsy.

This bowl is another item I love. I can just picture it with lemons on my kitchen table right now.

Since there seems to be a pattern with the holes that I'm loving, I searched a little more on Etsy and found this fantastic bowl.

And another great "holey" bowl.

Tuesday's Organizing Tip

Today's tip is more of inspiration. I cannot wait for my very own laundry room. There is something about a room where things go to be made clean that is so relaxing to me. (I may or may not have a little cleaning obsession.) So much happens in the laundry room, and I think it's crucial for it to be organized to make life easier. Here are some inspirational pictures with amazing organizing going on.

I would be ok living in this room and no other room of the house. This picture is so pretty, the organization, the styling, the fact that they have two washers!

Over the Weekend

This past weekend my sister in law got married. She had a photo booth for her guests to take pictures in and then write a little note to them. We had a blast in it, especially Ainsley. Her pictures are so hilarious, she progressively get grumpier.

This isn't the greatest picture but she used manzanita branches for her centerpieces. We got them wholesale from a floral company here in SLC, and she used apples to fill the vase. Another great thing to use the branches for, like my last post!

Fall

With fall coming in a couple of days, I thought I'd share some of my favorite things about fall and a few pretty inspirational pictures.

Image

I'm pretty sure most everyone says fall is their favorite season, and it is mine also. I just love the temperature changes, and here in Utah we get the best of all four seasons. The mountains are so beautiful with the leaves changing. The colors that come out at this time, that you don't get to see very often, are gorgeous.

Some things I like to decorate with are pumpkins.

Image

I like to spray paint the pumpkins a pretty gold color and place them on our kitchen table. This a great inexpensive decoration to use.

This is not the greatest picture of my pumpkins from two years ago, but you get the idea. I had placed them outside my door, and that is Ainsley's bouncy chair in front. Spray painting pumpkins is cheap, easy, and adds a big impact.

Pine cones are another item I like to use for fall decorating. Either plain or painted.

This is a great bowl that would be fun with pine cones or green apples in it.

Image

I also enjoy decorating with branches, either fallen off a tree or manzanita. I used a manzanita branch sprayed black with my pumpkins, and I have one inside painted white. I love the earthy feel they give to a space, especially in the fall season.

The Color Gray

Gray has always been one of those colors that I love to have around me. It's so calming, can be a neutral, and is a great backdrop for bright fun colors, such as yellow, turquoise, or red. These color mood boards I do are to help if you're stuck in trying to decide what color to use in your home, or you just need to mix things up.

Tuesday's Organizing Tip

It's no surprise I love beautifully organized spaces. This so far takes the cake on well utilized spaces. This is a nook off the entryway in a home, and it's been turned into a fabulous home office.

Images via Real Simple

There is not a bad design decision in the whole space. The wall is well utilized with floor to ceiling shelving systems from Elfa. What's so great about this whole system is that you can decide where and how the shelves go. This family needed places for doing homework and computer time, but also needed ample storage for papers and more. I love seeing a space used in a smart way, and outside of the box. That got me thinking about some other creative office areas:

Silhouettes

Silhouettes seem to be the "it" thing right now. I think they add a great charm to a room with an unexpected touch. I've talked about the silhouette project of Shawni's, from 71 Toes, before here. She created such character in her entry way using silhouettes of her children.

Image via71 Toes.

There are so many ways to achieve the silhouette look; people, kids, and animals just to name a few. The website "Paste" puts a different spin off of the normal silhouette, but it's so fun. It's made by using scraps of paper. I like this unique approach.

Here are some other creative styles:

The great thing about these is that you can easily make them yourself, or find them online for a reasonable price. Silhouettes add such character and whimsy to a space. I just started on one of my daughter Ainsley. I can't wait to see how it turns out.... She has the roundest cheeks!
