Inspiration Pictures

Blogs are a great source for inspiration and good ideas. It's nice to be able to have resources at our finger tips. Don't get me wrong though, there is nothing better than reading a magazine on the sofa. Over the years I have created a photo album filled with pictures that I have collected from the web, magazines, even ads. I love having ideas compiled in one place. Here are a few pictures that I've added recently to my album.

I just love the contrast of the knobs against the white. I would love to cook in this kitchen!

How wonderfully organized is this room!

This is a dream of mine one day. What a fantastic toy room. I like how the toys are all low for the kids, but still very organized.

I've always liked the idea of painted floors, be it just a solid color or pattern. This picture I've held onto forever.

Speaking of stripes, this one I have from the original magazine, Domino. I think this is such a fun idea to have in a child's room, or play room.

And lastly when we're ready to upgrade our kitchen table, I would like to achieve a similar look. A very dark table with these white Eames knock off chairs.

This table is very simple, but the deep brown with the contrast of the white is why I love this combination.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone has a great thanksgiving. We have such a fun weekend planned. Great food, spending lots of time with family, mad shopping, Christmas decorating, and we're taking Ainsley to see Tangled. I mention that only because that is all she has been talking about for days! Have a wonderful weekend!

Big Girl Room

So my little Ainsley is done being in her crib. She climbed out over a week ago for the first time and is on to the whole big girl bed thing. Her crib right now turns into a toddler bed with a rail, so she is sleeping in that, but I'm now into the process of creating a big girl room. There are so many things that I want to do, and want it to look like.  I would like her room to have more of an adult-ish feel than a toddler room. I would still like to use pink, but bring in grey, black, white, and maybe green, or yellow. I'm still mulling, but I do know I would love to have this artwork in her room. Not in black, but grey and pink.

This isn't the bed I would want to use. I want a little more glam to it, but I love the idea of having a seat on the end.

Here are some fabrics that I'm thinking about.

I think this chandelier would be a fun accent to have, especially if the crystals were grey, or black!

I'm still in the early stages of planning, these are some inspiration pictures that I'm using to jump off of.

Wreaths

With the holidays coming up so quickly I'm on the search for a new wreath. I never really decorate for Thanksgiving so I'm looking for a festive Christmas wreath. In my pursuing around I'd thought I share some cute finds.  I like how full and thick these feather wreaths are.

I love the colors and style of this wreath. Yarn wreaths seem to be all the rage these days, and this one is no exception, it's darling!!

I am longing for this one. I love boxwood wreaths, especially thick square ones. This wreath at the moment is unavailable to buy, but I check back daily. I'm on the search for one like it with my local wholesale florists. I would hang this with a wide white ribbon.

If I were in a crafting phase I would make this one, but I'm not. Although she has the best tutorial on how to do it.

Modern Doll House

I've always liked the modern contemporary look. I like houses that don't look like houses. I even like modern for kids rooms and toys. Ainsley is now in to playing with kitchens, dress ups, and dolls. Would this not be the greatest doll house ever. I don't know who would play with it more, me or her!

I would fill this house with the cutest small furniture. Look how fun these little chairs are.

I would love to have this, maybe it could be a combined Christmas gift for the two of us. While doing some research, I found this dollhouse that a woman made by hand. It is incredible! I think it would have to be on display and not for play. I can't even imagine how long that must have taken.

Oh Crate and Barrel

There are stores missing here in SLC. One being West Elm. Another being Crate and Barrel but not for long. They are going to open a store in fashion place mall next November! I was so outrageously excited when I saw it on the news that my little girl started dancing around the room because of my excitement. I've dreamt of this store being here, among others, but one step at a time. Next on my list is H&M. I guess if I've waited this long I can wait another year, but it's going to be so hard!!

A little redo

Besides celebrating my husbands birthday over the weekend, I added a few touches in our master bedroom. I got two lamps from Emiliejayne about five years ago, which have been on our bedroom side tables. I like the scale and simplicity of them, but it was high time they had a fresher look. I wanted to cover the shades in fabric, something like this.

But I'm not set in the final design yet of the room, and I didn't want to get through all that recovering to not have them match. So I opted to do something a little less permanent. I adhered ribbon to the top and bottom of each shade.

I also finished up my sunburst mirror that I talked about here. This corner is much more cheerful now, and the pop of color is perfect for the meantime.

Bedroom Benches

If you have the room, I think having a bench at the end of your bed is such a great touch. It can complete your bed, add a finishing touch to your bedroom, and be a great place to bring in some color, pattern, or if you need it, solids. Here are some fun benches.

If you have a very colorful duvet, then this a good option for you. It has great style with the nail heads, but is also very calming with it being a solid color.

I like this color, and bonus it's a storage bench.

I love the contemporary feel of this with the metal and leather.

I think these stools are so classic, but they're not long enough. So pair two of them together, and the print will really liven up your room.

Other ways to achieve this look: shop consignment, thrift stores, or your own home. You can re upholster or paint a wooden bench. It doesn't even have to be a bench. If you have chairs that have relatively low backs you can achieve the same feel. Here are some rooms using benches at the foot of the bed.

Milk Glass

I have an insane obsession with milk glass. I love that it's white, and I especially like anything with a pedestal, Jar with lid, or hobnail (bumpy). I have gathered quite a selection over the years, but haven't bought any for a while. I wouldn't mind adding these to my collection.

Oh man alive, if only this were in my collection. It's hobnail, a cake plate (which I have a love for also) and milk glass!

Ok, this is it! This is the one that needs to be mine. There are no other words, a moment of silence is best. The picture is deceiving, it's pretty large for being milk glass. It's 14 inches tall.

I like this one, it's a little different than what I mostly see.

I have found the best selection is from consignment, and thrift stores. The thrill of the hunt is so fun. I love finding unique pieces to add.

Tuesday's Organizing Tip

I don't know where I would be without my filing cabinet. I am a super freak about being organized and I love having one. I could even stand to have three or four. I think they are perfect for recipes, sheet music, organizing kids and their activities, and so on. There are the standard filing cabinets from Office Max, but I wanted to share a few that I think could be used as a piece of furniture, or at least be left out and seen.

Very classic design from none other than Pottery Barn. This can go in any type of style you're trying to achieve, and can hold a lot of folders.

If you're wanting to splurge you can always choose this option. This doesn't even look like it's a filing cabinet. I could see this piece easily going in an entry way.

Via CSN

For a more contemporary look, this is nice and has more storage than just the typical filing cabinet.

Here is a twist. If you're strapped for space, use this ottoman filing system.

Or if you really want something out of the ordinary you could use these that I spotted at a local shop (which I did a post on here). I still think about these lockers and will somehow find space for them in my home, even if I have to sleep on them!
