I have the cubed shelf from Ikea, along with 10,859 people in Utah. I also have the white storage bins like the other half of Utah. Bless the heavens that Ikea came, really it is a great source for so many items, but can get a little played out. That's why I needed to do something to these boxes that made them different. Now painting stripes on a box is nothing new, but to me it has made a WORLD of difference. I just took some good old painters tape, and craft paint in Pewter Grey, and am pleased as punch how they turned out.
Don't look too close, there are some smudges. I had a little helper present, and she "forgot" that the paint was wet! It wouldn't be hand done without some mess ups.
I was trying to arrange it differently, because I felt it was a little bottom heavy with all those stripes, so I kept moving things around. I realized if I wanted the frames and accessories played with I would have just given them to Ainsley, so I decided to leave it alone. It will probably be re-arranged in about a week, but for now the boxes are complete.

Great idea! I love the way you took something "everyone" has and easily made it your own. Found you from Blog Guidebook and can't wait to see more!
I have those same boxes and just had to see what you did to make the stripes. Paint, duh. :) I love the stripes!! And I also love how you decorated the shelf.
