Outside the Box Walls

I have a new obsession with the website Shelterness. I think this is such a clever way to decorate the wall using thin pieces of logs. It's simple yet makes a big impact. This would be a great addition to a cabin.

I also like the feel of this room. Using a similar technique as above, but creating a very different vibe.

Outfit Into Room

I got this dress for Ainsley, and absolutely love the color combo, so I decided to find some spaces that mirrored the look.

Black, white and yelllow can be a daring combination in the home, but if done right will create a classic look. Here are some rooms done right.

It's not just homes this color combo is popping up in, I've noticed a big trend with weddings and parties. This table scape by Amy Atlas is to die for!

Unique Organizing Idea

Isn't this a fantastic organizing idea?! I found it via Pinterest. I love how simple and achievable it is. You can leave it bare, paint it, or even wrap the cans in fabric.

It reminds me a lot of this organizing tool that I've blogged about before. Having an obsession for organizing I LOVE this piece and think it could be a start to creating a DIY.

It's Been a While...

I took a little unplanned break from blogging this past week. The start of summer has been good to us. We've been having so much fun with family, fun outings, lots of BBQ's, outdoor activities, fun date nights, swimming, amusement parks, and the list could go on. Ainsley is at the most fun stage right now, ( I'm certain I've said that at every age in her life) and we've just had the greatest few weeks.

Last weekend we went to the farmers market, and I purchased two huge basil plants. I love basil and could use it every day. So it was high time I got a plant. I've decided to keep it inside for a while, because with all this rain, it's not doing the greatest outdoors. So I've been on the search for an indoor planter. I've narrowed my search down to these two choices:

I love the texture of this planter, and it's a good price.

This one might just be the perfect choice. I really can't get over how much I like this style, and the fact that it's on a stand is great.

Upholstered Ottomans

The best thing I think we ever bought for our home was our black leather ottoman. We bought it at the time Ainsley started walking, and got rid of our wood coffee table. I loved the softness and knew when she started walking she wouldn't get hurt (unlike the corners of our coffee table). We can pull it up to our sofa and relax, or pull it to the side for extra seating. I do, however, wish it were patterned, but I love the fact that it's leather. While shopping at Home Goods the other day I saw these two great ottomans.

Ottomans are such a great, versatile, and usable means to bring in color, pattern, and style.

In this space the ottoman is the main focus with this fun zebra print.

Even though this one doesn't have a design on it, the nail heads take it up a notch. Seems like this could be a DIY project.

Love the scale of this ottoman.

And lastly, I love the way these ottomans are being used for extra seating with the coffee table.

My Houzz Faves

Here are some of my latest favorites from Houzz. This website is a great source of information and ideas about anything design.

I can't get enough of this wall. The article is about adding interest to your wall by taking it a step further. Well this is beyond a step, don't you think? I love the depth and uniqueness of this idea. The design is from a company, but could be replicated with some trim from the hardware store.

Absolutely LOVE this paint trim. Isn't this fantastic?! So many variations you could use!

There is something so calming about this kitchen. The cabinets are simple but not boring.

This space is very monochromatic. There are so many shapes, layers, and patterns going on that it looks great without using a lot of colors.

And lastly, this back splash tile is to die for. The shape of the tile really adds a unique vibe, but isn't overwhelming in the space.

Guest Post from Arcadian Lighting

Today I'm featuring a guest post from Arcadian Lighting, be sure to check them out!

We've noticed pretty ruffled lights and lampshade popping up in various online publications and shelter magazines. These feminine accents can soften the feeling of a room without being too over the top girly. It really is amazing how a little bit of ruffle added to a lamp shade can transform it from boring to stylish.

Ruffles, whether a trim, accent or entire shade, will change not only the light fixture, but the whole room. Like fashion, you can add a little ruffle for a subtle accent or go to the nines and make a statement with a shade covered in ruffles. Here are our favorite ruffled lights and lamp shades:

Rosenberry Rooms (via)

We like the tailored ruffled trim on this large white lampshade. Add to an existing table lamp for a feminine touch.

Etsy (via)

This handmade burlap ruffled lamp shade looks like a petticoat. We found it on Etsy. So fun and flirty!

Lamps Plus (via)

We love the tan and brown shirred ruffle trim on this cinched drum shade. It definitely has an elegant feel.

Ruffle Rings (via)

From PB Teen, the Ruffle Rings shade comes in blue and pink. Love the ruffled circles on this shade. So simple and unique!

Etsy (via)

Inspired by a shade sold by Anthropologie that is no longer available, this burlap ruffle shade is handmade. You can buy it on Etsy or look for DIY instructions online. Gorgeous!

The Circo Purple Ruffle light fixture caught our eye with its gorgeous color. Great price too!

For a contemporary space, the Camelia ruffled floor lamp from B. Lux by Global Lighting has the soft lines of ruffles but maintains a sleek, minimalist vibe.

We like the subtle ruffled texture in the pendant light from LBL Lighting. Nice for a modern space that needs a touch of feminine to balance out all those straight lines.

Latest Outdoor Find

It's no secret that I love to make the outside of a home just as appealing as the inside. That's why I love this new to me website Flora. It's got the most unique and fun outdoor accessories to spruce up any space. One of my favorites is this take on a standard trellis. I love the look of it, and that it can be placed anywhere. I would love to do this on the side of a house and maybe have a vegetable garden grow up.

I also love this bench. The idea of having a plant in the middle is genius!

Downeast Home Find

On my quest for a new TV console, I came across this beauty while shopping the tent sale at Downeast Home. Isn't it amazing? I love the size, it's perfect for a TV with extra room for accessories. The drawers are perfect to hold lots of DVDs. The only downfall is the price. Almost $2,000. While it's more than 50% off the original price, it's not quite in the budget.

Oh it's so dang cute, and perfect. Maybe I'll be on the search for one through KSL or yard sales and turn it into something fabulous like Natalie from Natty By Design. She painted a run down dresser this amazing red.

Million Dollar Decorators Recap

Did anyone catch the first episode on Tuesday? It's on later than I care to stay up so I watched it yesterday. This show is defiantly not HGTV. It's quit interesting to see design on that kind of level. A few things I learned from the first episode.

You can pretty much accomplish any design you want with their budgets (if that's even the right word to use).

You can design a whole penthouse apartment in a few weeks with nearly unlimited accessibility. Being able to purchase a $25,000 rug, instead of taking a few months to find "the one".

I clearly am not hip enough, because I finish my sentences, and words. They say gorg, instead of gorgeous. Bugging, instead of that bugs me. Maybe the show should just be called Mil Dol Dec.

It's possible to have an outdoor area on a small balcony, including grass and all!

Even though this is for sure not an every day occurrence with designers and clients, they sure know how to bring it with the finished product. Sharon Osbourne's apartment speaks for itself.

I'm excited to see more of the designs that are created in the rest of the season. What did you think?
